Spotlights

March 26, 2010

The editors of Applied Physics Express (APEX) and Japanese Journal of Applied Physics (JJAP) start offering monthly "Spotlights" alert service to draw your attention to new works published in APEX and JJAP.

As often witnessed in the past, progress in applied physics has been promoted by cross-disciplinary research and for this reason we believe that it is significant to give readers a broad perspective on current research. As a first step in this direction, each month we will select and suggest a small number of articles for the registered readers by using alert e-mails named "Spotlights". Selection of papers is based on the high potentialities for capturing interest of researchers in the applied physics community, not on the papers’ evaluation. We hope that "Spotlights" will lead to opportunities to redirect readers beyond their usual interests.

Celebrating the Second Anniversary

December 25, 2009

APEX published in 2008 will be available FREE OF CHARGE for 1 year starting from January 1, 2010.

MESSAGE FROM THE EDITOR-IN-CHIEF

I am pleased to announce that the articles published in Applied Physics Express (APEX) in 2008 (volume 1) will be available free of charge for one year from January 1, 2010 in celebration of the second anniversary of APEX.

APEX has been launched since 2008 to succeed the former Japanese Journal Applied Physics (JJAP) Part 2, especially the Express Letters section that has significant impacts to researchers in the field of applied physics. Fortunately, regardless of newly launched journal, we have had many contributions and downloads from all over the world.

I believe that this anniversary campaign will provide the researchers who are unaware of APEX an opportunity to recognize how excellent results APEX has published. Besides, for the researchers who have contributed to APEX up to the present, this may lead to the opportunities to enhance the visibility of their articles.

On behalf of the Editorial Board, I hope that more researchers will be readers and/or contributors of APEX.

OPEN SELECT — JSAP Open Access Program —

September 1, 2008

The Japan Society of Applied Physics is offering Open Access (OA) to articles published in Japanese Journal of Applied Physics (JJAP) and Applied Physics Express (APEX). This OA program is called OPEN SELECT. Anyone (authors, institutions, funding agencies, etc.) can, by paying a one-time extra fee, make the article available on the JJAP/APEX website that is accessible to all readers without extra cost or subscription. Readers can access PDF versions of the OPEN SELECT articles through the JJAP/APEX online journal.

The OPEN SELECT fee is added to the regular publication (i.e., page) charge (see below). Invited review papers are considered on a case-by-case basis.

The copyright of the OPEN SELECT articles still belongs to the Japan Society of Applied Physics. Reproducing and/or reusing OPEN SELECT articles, including uploading on any server which is open to public, is not allowed without the prior permission of the Japan Society of Applied Physics.

JJAP Part 2, the Letter Section, Now Has Its Own Name—
Applied Physics Express (APEX)

November 1, 2007

Considering the recent increasing demand for a rapid dissemination service of high-impact research results and findings, the Japanese Journal of Applied Physics (JJAP) has decided to give the letter section (JJAP Part 2) its own journal title, namely, Applied Physics Express (abbreviated as APEX). In accordance with this title change in the letter section, from January 2008 (Vol. 47), the present “JJAP Part 1” is going to be published as simply Japanese Journal of Applied Physics (JJAP). The JJAP and APEX are published by the Japan Society of Applied Physics (JSAP) through the Institute of Pure and Applied Physics (IPAP).

A number of important letter papers—which have helped shape the present information-oriented society—have been published in the JJAP since the launch of the letter section in 1980; some of the papers appear in the “Highlights from the JJAP letter section”. In particular, articles that have significant impacts on applied physics and/or technology and are worthy of immediate publication have been highlighted by introducing the Express Letters section in April 1998. APEX is the successor of the present JJAP Part 2, not only inheriting the long-standing international reputation of the JJAP Part 2 but also further promoting its strength in terms of high scientific quality and prompt publication.
